50/100harem and ground hog day anime based a porn game gone wrongContinue on AniListWarning: this review may contain spoilers.
First impressions: So another anime based off of a hentai game again. I really need to stop watching these. Now I would like to add that I liked this anime and it's pretty hard to review an anime with this much controversy surrounding it, but I will try my best to review it.
Story: 5/10
The story begins with our two main characters Haruka and his twin sister who have decided to move to a rural town where they once spent the summers as kids because both of their parents died in accident. And that's pretty much it- they meet old friends and what not. It's pretty much like most rom-com anime. It's based around a high school in a small town and there are some girls that like the main protagonist. So probably judging from what I have said so far you will probably think this show is generic and it kind of is in a way. But I would like to add that Yosuga no Sora does add something I little different from what most rom-com normally do, whether this is a good or a bad thing I don't really know.
There are a few things that this show does a bit differently which I am going to mention now. One thing is the narrative of this show. Now most anime based of a hentai game will generally adapt one routes of the game with parts of other routes in between. This is what this show does a little differently. It follows a ground hog day narrative formula and goes through all the girls’ routes.
What I liked about this approach is that I was able to see all these routes play out and I got to see all the characters in a different way in every route because I also got a bit of drama with each route surrounding the girl who is the main girl in that route. Even though the drama was generic and the routes have pretty much the same plot beats.Basically, the main character meets a girl, she has problems, and then the problem is solved by the main character’s dick. Now even though it does boil down to that, the only routes that I personally thought where interesting was the Nao route and the Sora route. These were the only routes that actually did something that was actually serious and took their selves seriously enough.
Another thing the show does a bit different, is the fact that it has a lot of off NSFW scenes that pretty much go into soft core porn territory. If you think I am joking I am not I am very serious. This show has sex scenes in it and if you have watched some hentai, then I am pretty sure you will know what to expect. Now at first I was a little shocked at first because I hadn't seen something like this in an anime before and I didn't really expect this at the time. But I didn't really mind this because at least they are kind of staying true to the source material.
Also, one thing that I would like to add is that the story can be very controversial in how it handles this kind of content. For example, in one of the routes the main character goes into a relationship with his twin sister. There is also a part where they show the main character getting raped as a kid. Which at that point, I am thinking to myself wtf. And I can see why people would find this very off putting. Now as for me personally, I didn't really care. But to be honest I was kind of on the fence about the whole rape and incest plot point. But it does handle itself with a bit of maturity. So I give that a pass.
Another down side to this style of narrative is that the routes were really rushed so if you want to see the same story but slower then you should probably play the game. And also the fact it went so fast that it really doesn't leave any actual impact. But even though they were rushed it wouldn't of helped the show that much anyway because of how generic the story telling was.
Characters: 5/10
The main character Haruka is pretty generic over all. One thing that is different about him is that he makes some very questionable choices which made him a little fun to watch. The side characters are pretty much one note. But they do try to add a bit depth- I guess- to the characters but overall it doesn't really work because of how rushed and generic the story was. Also this is a harem story I am talking about. All the characters fit in to certain fetish types so , to be fair, the characters were going to be one note any way.
Art: 6/10
The animation was pretty average by the books, meaning there was nothing really bad or good about it as a whole. It uses a very bright color scheme that goes well with the summer time kind of weather and setting that the show takes place in.Overall, it has a very clear cut style to it. The character design are also generic and kind of sexualize a lot. But hey, why I am complaining?
Sound: 6/10
The OST fits with the tone of the show pretty well. The OST isn't the best but it did an okay job. The OST was composed by manabu miwa who has also done the OST for little busters and nyan koi.The voice acting was ok, nothing too amazing, but they do a decent job. This show only has a sub, probably because of the nature of this show. But as far as a sub goes it not that bad
Enjoyment: 5/10
So what I liked about the show is that it was trying to be a little different, which isn't bad. Another thing I like is that it follows the actual source material to a point. Plus I also enjoyed the fact that these relationships went all the way. And that's something we don't see much especially for a show that aired on public television.Overall: 5/10
Yosuga no Sora is pretty much one of those anime where if you like it you going to like and if you hate then you are going to want to destroy every trace of it from the world hoping it never sees the light of day never again.HidamariSeashore
73/100A decent anime....except for the incest part.Continue on AniListYou have got to love it when there is a possibility to go the incest route, but that’s just it; it’s only a possibility. After all, when there are other girls around you who would make a good lover, what could possibly make you want to bang your sister instead? Well, I guess there are some people who would have an answer to that question; there are people who are fans of incest anime, after all. One such incest anime was one that I’ve known about for years; however, mostly because of how sexual I had heard it was, I held off on watching it up until now. When I finally watched it, however, I didn’t expect it to be any good; somehow, it managed to meet my expectations and pleasantly surprise me at the same time.
Lads, ladies, and non-binaries, here is my review of “Yosuga no Sora: In Solitude, Where We Are Least Alone”.
Yosuga no Sora starts off like quite a decent number of other visual novels. Haruka and Sora Kasugano are a pair of twins who move into their grandparents’ house in the countryside after losing their parents in a car accident. This place is somewhere where they’ve spent summers before, and when they arrive, they end up reuniting with childhood friends Akira Amatsume and Nao Yorimichi, as well as making new friends in Kazuha Migiwa and Ryouhei Nagazato. From there, the story splits into four different routes, where Haruka romances one of each of the four leading ladies, with memories of his past playing a part in most of them.
First of all, I need to make this fact perfectly clear; while they don’t show everything, this anime DOES have sex scenes. If you are uncomfortable with that, I suggest you stop reading this review now, because this is one anime that you will not want to watch, regardless of my own verdict of it. With that said, however, for once, I didn’t feel uncomfortable when watching most of those sex scenes; either all of the other borderline-hentai anime I have watched have desensitized me, or it really had more to do with how the sex scenes I was comfortable with contained consensual sex and really felt like love consummation. Most of them could have been taken out, though, and it would not have affected the story much.
Speaking of the story, as I mentioned before, the story is divided into four different routes, which each focus of Kazuha, Akira, Nao, and Sora, in that order. This kind of set-up would remind one of anime like Amagami SS and Photo Kano, but to me, each route felt more like they branched from certain parts of the story. The first nine episodes - which covered the first three routes - were all at least decent; they gave a good amount of character development to those involved. Out of the three, I liked Akira’s route the best; Akira is a fun character to begin with, and I enjoyed seeing her story and the development of her relationship with Haruka.
Then, for the last three episodes, we get.... sigh.... Sora’s route. Now, I’ll give it credit where credit is due; I did find it to be a good portrayal of how incest is viewed by society. However, THAT DOES NOT MAKE THIS ROUTE GOOD. We are treated to at least one sexual scene per episode of this route, whether it’s Sora masturbating to Haruka or the siblings just plain engaging in sexual activity; add in the simple fact that they’re siblings (and blood-related ones, at that), and you’ve got the perfect recipe for a very awkward and uncomfortable experience. Further damaging my opinion of this route, however, is Sora Kasugano herself; she is a completely selfish brat, and I saw little to no chemistry between her and her brother. Finally, the way this route ended just left a bad taste in my mouth.
At least the end of the entire anime didn’t make me keep that sour taste, however, and do you know what I have to thank? The answer to that question is the comedic specials that air at the end of every episode, including the last one. These specials star Motoka Nogisaka, a maid who works for Kazuha’s family; apparently, she had a route in the original visual novel, so I’m assuming that these specials were added to make up for her route not being able to fit into the main series. No matter what the reason why these specials exist, however, there’s no denying that they’re quite entertaining; while I wouldn’t say that these specials were my favorite part of the series as a whole, I did enjoy Motoka as a character, as well as her relationship with Haruka, which blossomed throughout these specials. These specials even have their own ending theme - “Pinky Jones” by Momoiro Clover Z - which is not only catchy, but it also fits in with the comedic nature of these specials.
Since I talked about the ending theme for the specials, I guess I should talk about the theme songs for the main series, huh? Well, I do like eufonius’s music, and while “Hiyoku no Hane” - which serves as this anime’s opening theme - isn’t my favorite out of their songs, it fits in with the anime’s overall atmosphere and is worthy of a few re-listens; the same can be said about “Tsunagukizuna” by Nekocan featuring Junca Amaoto - the ending theme - although probably to a lesser extent. The voice acting is also pretty good; each of the characters’ voices fit the characters themselves well, and many convincing performances were given. Finally, the animation, done by feel, is very well-done; I wouldn’t say it’s perfect all of the way through, but it’s definitely pretty-looking.
Overall, Yosuga no Sora is a decent anime....if you can get over the last three episodes. I do suggest watching it if you are in the mood for something similar to Amagami SS and are comfortable with sex scenes. To those of you who are uncomfortable with incest, though, here’s today’s quote: “Don’t like, don’t watch!” (At least, don’t watch the last three episodes.)

85/100If you actually cut the "incest part" and think of it as a whole, maybe you might see something else.Continue on AniListIf you actually cut the "incest part" and think of it as a whole and how the story goes, maybe you might see something else.
Instead of just being a moralistic freak that you are.
But I still doubt it anyway.
Before even watching the anime, I clearly thought that it was just gonna be a typical maybe "School Days" Anime. That doesn't really mean anything or has depth in it. Just a bunch of horny teenagers wanting to fuck. (very biased ik)
You never really want to trust comments or rumors especially when it comes to this. Not unless you've seen the series for yourself. But I doubt you're gonna be any different.
What I really liked and something to take note of, is that how the story goes especially the music that comes and goes in the right time. Which is also good pacing and fitting of the scenes with the music.
And rarely do I find something like this in a romance anime anymore. It reminded me of WA2 (White Album 2) another anime that's actually under appreciated and also a VN (Visual Novel).
The arcs, especially was handled decently. Considering it is a VN and every girl has it's each and own respective arc/route. Which is fair.
The characters or girls has depth in the them. They aren't just simply fucking out of being horny. What makes this different and something to really appreciate. Is that, they're not just simply in love. There's a reason on why is why, and this is provided in every single arc.
On what I don't like or find a bit bothering is that, Haru is essentially a campus crush. Everyone and every girl if not, most are attracted to him. But to be fair he isn't that all high, he has his flaws to counter too. He gets weak or indecisive when pressured or confused.
His wingman Ryouhei is a typical pervert. Which isn't that surprising. And Sora is annoying but bearable, and I can understand that.
You'd have to think fair and carefully when rating something likes this. There's a lot of things I critically find, but given it's just 12 ep anime at the least it wasn't that bad. No, not that much.
