  This could've been a really good show but ended up with bad structure.

  Have you ever had that situation where you love the beginning of an anime but the rest of the series doesn’t turn out to well? You get disappointed and just want to forget all the things that were bad. That is how it was with Photokano for me. Photokano is a 13 episode romance school TV series produced by Madhouse. It aired from April 5, 2013 to Jun 28, 2013.

  This series is about Maeda Kazuya, a normal high school boy that receives a digital camera from his father. He starts to get interested in photographing which opens a lot of doors for him. During the series he comes across people he would never had talked to if it wasn’t for his new found hobby.

  The structure of this series is pretty simple. It starts off with four episodes of introduction where you get to meet all the characters. Then the series becomes arc based. This is when it becomes problematic. Every arc is focused on one of the girls that Maeda meets. During these arcs Maeda helps the girls with their problems and also starts a relationship with them. The problem here is that the arcs are very short. Most of them only last for one episode. This makes them very rushed. This structure also makes it feel like the story doesn’t progress so much.The photo theme is very interesting and was the reason for me checking this series out. They did handle it pretty well although they could added a bit more of it. Again the bad structure prevents from doing this.

  The main characters Maeda Kazuya isn’t that special of a character but he is likeable. He doesn’t have so much development or a backstory, but this works because the focus is more on the main girls. The girls are many. So many that I won’t take the time to talk about each one of them. The good thing about them is that even if they are so many they still have interesting and unique backstories. But then we do also have a problem with the amount of girls. As I said before the arcs is only one episode and that’s because every girls is going to have one. The lack of time makes them really rushed and the main character barley gets to start a relationship before he has to move on to the next girl. I think the series would have been better if it had a smaller cast of girls.

  The series also have few supporting characters. These characters don’t get so much screen time because of the focus on the main girls. This is pretty disappointing because some of where really good and funny. My favorite character of the series is Kudou Hiromichi, the leader of the photo club Maeda joins. He does only appear a few times during the series and most of his appearance comes from the previews which he narrates.

  I don’t have so much to say about art and animation. It holds a good standard. My favorite part was how they did the photographing. It looked nice and beautiful. One of my favorite things about this series is the great feeling you get. You feel calm and relaxed. The biggest reason for this is the background music. It is always used at the right time and set such a good tone in the scene. The voice acting was good. There weren’t any performances I didn’t like. My favorite performance in this series came from Midorikawa Hikaru who played the character I talked about earlier Kudou Hiromichi.

  Photokano is a series that sets high expectations that it can't live up to. It follows the classic dating sim structure which is not a bad structure, but it has to be handled well. Photokano has a great intro but has a really bad structure. In this case it's the structure that decides if this series is very good or just good. This series would have worked out a lot better if it just where longer or had a smaller cast. Even with the bad structure the series has some interesting characters and it gives a really good feeling which is the first thing that comes to my mind when I think back on Photokano.

  rushed development with characters

  Photo Kano originally a visual novel which was released in November 2011 and other volumes which were released up until October 2013. During that time in April 2013 the studio MADHOUSE started the release of the anime with the last episode coming out in June of the same year. Please note I have not read the manga, so I do not know if anything that I am saying is dotted on in the manga, so I may be wrong, and I do apologize.

  The main story of the show can be hard to follow if you don't completely understand on your first watch. The main connector of the story is about Kazuya Maeda and how he got his dad’s old camera handed down to him. With his camera, he meets new friends and gets interested in taking portraits of others. For some explanation, after each episode past episode 4 he either goes back in time or to an alternate universe, then in the next episode it's as if the last episode never happened.

  When trying to make a romance anime, I think that the introduction of the characters is crucial in how they develop together. Photo Kano introduced the characters nicely, using most of the first 4 episodes to do so. After which, each girl got 1 episode (except for Haruka Niimi who had 2) to develop their character and have a romance with Kazuya Maeda.

  I think with each girl only getting 1 episode made things feel rushed. When I started watching this, I was expecting a similar experience to that of Amagami SS or Seiren, but it didn’t feel that way. Things felt like they had to be moving along as fast as they could, with what normally would take at least 3-4 episodes only taking half of their episode. The saving grace of this was that in the beginning when they are introduced they have time to get introduced to the main character and start from there, but I don’t think that this was enough.

  In my opinion, the best character had to have been Hikari Sanehara, a kuudere who once she gets to know Kazuya Maeda starts to change in a way that you can connect with. Each character had their own respective development, and some were definitely better than others. Not everyone starts off by liking the other, but after spending 15 minutes of our time they have become totally in love with one another, and once again it makes it feel rushed.

  I feel like this is not a bad watch, but it is not a great watch either. I think that if each girl got at least one more episode, it would have allowed for greater character development and being able to connect with their romance more. That said, after you watch this, I highly recommend Amagami SS. It was wonderful in comparison, but if you enjoy Amagami SS, this may be a watch for you. If you aren't an avid anime watcher this might not be a terrible watch either, the episodes past 4 don’t have many intertwining elements, so you could pop on an episode and go back to working after that.

  6 episodio legal e o resto é resto

  Até o episódio 7 eu tava impressionado, porque tava gostando bastante até, parece que estavam tentando fazer um pouco diferente de todas as adaptações de visual novel que já assisti, que tinha uma parte legal, mas do nada ignorava tudo que aconteceu até aquele ponto para mostrar outra rota da visual novel kkkkkkkkkkk, logo depois do episódio 6 ter terminado que começou exatamente isso. A partir dai foi um episódio para cada menina que até tem umas adições legais, mas também tem muita mudança de personalidade só deixando a personagem mais genérica

  O anime é sobre Maeda Kazuya, um menino que aparentemente pula de hobby para hobby e nada gruda, até ele receber a antiga câmera de seu pai. Com isso ele começa ir andando pela escola procurando por chances para tirar fotos e com isso ele vai se relacionando com as meninas que estudam na mesma escola dele… incluindo a irmã dele
  
  Já que depois da metade o anime ficou super chato, parei para ler os review que tinham na anilist, dos dois que tinha foi falado uma coisa que não percebi muito. Como o anime é uma adaptação de uma visual novel, ele é mais ou menos divido em rotas, uma coisa que não gosto, mas oque eu vi que no Review falou que só os 4 primeiro episódios foram mais centralizados para mostrar os personagens, enquanto o resto foi separado para cada rota de cada personagem. Entendo que o episódio 5 e 6 são mais sobre uma menina, mas para mim ele tava indo certo até aí e totalmente entendo que no final ele teria que ficar com uma... O FINAL DESSE ANIME DE 13 EPISÓDIOS FOI NO EPISÓDIO 6(???)
  A partir dai vira toda aquela coisa chata de visual novel, mas tem umas partes legal pelo menos, como parte que explica o do porquê uma coisa aconteceu num episódio anterior, mas esse sistema de "voltar no tempo" e "timeline alternativa" fica chato rápido e tudo oque adiciona ia ficar muito melhor se tivesse no miolo do anime
  
  De personagem a gente tem o protagonista, o Maeda Kazuya até que é um cara legal, mesmo tendo escolhido em ter entrado no clube dos pervertidos, de começo ele trabalha em mais proteger as meninas, mas logo depois isso é meio que ignorado, então não sei se é um ponto muito bom para usar para ele. Uma coisa engraçada dele que ele é aquele tipo de protagonista que sempre tá num canto de um lugar e sempre se bate com as meninas kkkkkkkk

  Das meninas, a primeira rota que acontece é da Niimi Haruka que achei a mais compatível com ele até agora, mas acho que tem mais a ver com o fato de ela ter mais exposição no anime. Ela tem o melhor plot e o que mais fez sentido para um romance, achei meio rápido o desenvolvimento, mas não achava que só iam pular para outra rota logo depois

  A segunda rota foi, acho que a segunda mais desapontante, porque a Sanehara Hikari parecia ser uma personagem legal, mas que nem acho que precisaria um plot de romance e o que aconteceu só ignorou a personalidade dela do começo e deixou uma bem genérica e super rushada, uma pena que ela era a única personagem que fava sobre câmera, achava que ia ter um plot legal

  A partir daqui eu já não me lembro de quem era cada rota, então só vou falando em ordem do anilist, A Muroto Aki foi uma das minhas favoritas, ela que foi uma das com maior personalidade no anime, na rota dela ela perdeu um pouco, mas legal saber umas informações a mais dela. Muito engraçado ela sofrendo porque o Maeda tava dando um mini-blackmail nela, mas ela acabava dando mais ideia ainda de como ele poderia piorar a situação dela, no final a relação foi um win-win para os dois, meio merda que não continuou isso na rota dela, mas é sempre assim em visual novel
  
  A Sakura Mai é bem simpática e legal, ela que ajuda bastante o Maeda no começo, outra que acho que ia ter ficado melhor como um personagem de suporte doque uma rota de romance igual a Sanehara, mas a rota dela acaba sendo até que engraçada porque ela faz o Maeda ficar comendo as comidas que ela não pode comer por estar em dieta

  A Masaki Nonoka achava que ia ser uma tomboy genérica, mas gostei bastante, engraçado que a rota dela foi uma das com mais "Sex appeal". Ela é dublada pela Saitou Chiwa que normalmente só faz personagem mais infantil dai, às vezes é engraçado ela dar um grito que dai lembra a Becky
  
  A Yunoki Rina é muito burrinha, a coitada, achava que o bagulho dela ia ser mais sobre os peitos e eu ia quase dormir assistindo o episódio, mas é sobre cozinha... a coitada é muito burrinha, ficou um tempo para descobrir uma receita e dai faz a porra de um hambúrguer... carne num pão kkkkkkkk. Aparentemente o bagulho dos peitos dela só foi para piada do primeiro episódio que ela aparece

  A Misumi Tomoe foi o motivo de eu ter começado a assistir esse anime, eu na minha jornada de assistir coisa da Miyuki Sawashiro, achava que ia ter que ficar procurando por ela já que no anilist ela tá bem em baixo comparado a umas, mas para minha surpresa ela foi uma das primeiras personagens que apareceu no anime e até que ela é um personagem legal... até chegar na rota dela que ela só vira uma burrinha genérica infelizmente
  
  Maeda Kanon… A IRMÃ DELE CARA, POR QUÊ!!! Legal que ela é dublada pela mesma dubladora do Killua do hunter x hunter lol

  Eu tava torcendo para o último episódio ser para a Uchida Yuuko, mas eles vão e fazem sobre A PORRA DA IRMÃ DELE, que nem é tão ruim, mas estranho. Aquela porra de recasamento que não faz sentido para mim acontecer, mas cada um é cada um. A Uchida fica aparecendo em altos episódios e uns ela é até melhor que a personagem lobotomizada da rota kkkkkkkkkkkkk
  
  De resto é resto, maioria do resto só aparecem às vezes para falar uma ou duas coisas que não adicionam tanto e acabam sendo resetados no próximo episódios kkkkkkkkkk

  A animação é bem bonita, às vezes no ponto de visão da câmera, tem uma assistência 3d e quando a foto é tirada ela é só still frame, mas bem bonito. Tem uns angulo bem legal às vezes que adiciona bastante, mas não faz muito sentido, no sentido de tu usar uma câmera de verdade kkkkkkkk
  
  De música não tenho muito oque falar, não gostei muito da opening e ending e a ost que toca durante o anime é uma versão instrumental da opening, mas até que tocando na hora certa fica legal

  A história de começo é legal, até o episódio 6 é legal, depois disso no episódio 7 e 8 só volta no tempo e ignora 80% do aconteceu até aquele ponto. Engraçado como que o episódio 9 muda um pouco a estrutura, enquanto o 7 e 8 voltaram no tempo ignorando muito doque aconteceu, o 9 dá uma continuação para uma parte mostrada na rota da Niimi então parece mais uma timeline alternativa. Foi um episódio bem legal.
  Episodio 10 parece fazer parecido com sendo uma timeline alternativa, mas é bem menos conectado. Nele mostra o porquê que a nonoka sempre chama o maeda de Darts'un e o episódio 12 foi um dos mais decepcionante, parece que ele tentou juntar um pouco dos outros só que na visão nova, mas só acabou tirando a personalidade que a Misumi foi apresentada, ela parecia ser um personagem legal no começo, mas só virou uma personagem genérica no episódio que era para ser sobre ela
  
  Fiquei bem triste pela... rota... que o anime foi, tava gostando bastante e não parece ser super fácil de achar um anime que fala sobre câmera, além do anime, ignorar muita parte sobre câmera que eu tenho interesse ele também faz o mesmo com muita personagem que gostei kkkkkkkkk, pesquisando descobri que é um jogo originalmente de PSP, um console que eu amo jogar e é super fácil de emular. Talvez algum dia eu pegue para jogar ele, mas não sei se vai ser uma boa experiência para meu primeiro visual novel sendo garanto que a maioria dos problemas do anime vieram direto dele kkkkkkkkkk
  De nota não faço ideia oque dar, então vou usar a mesma estrategia que usei no último, só deixar a nota padrão no anilist(que os outras duas reviews também deram por aí) e não dar nota no Letterboxd
  Recomendo também o Review de Znatte e do Bruhgreenbean, que li antes de terminar porque o anime tava super chato kkkkkkkkkkkkk
