DESCRIPTION
The second season of Natsume Yuujinchou.
As with its prequel, Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou is about Natsume Takashi, a boy who has had the ability to see youkai since he was young, and his bodyguard youkai, Madara, nicknamed Nyanko-sensei. Natsume attempts to return names written in his Book of Friends, which he inherited from his grandmother Reiko, to youkai in his village. Throughout these adventures, he meets some youkai that are friendly, some that want to steal the Book of Friends, and some that want to kill him. Natsume learns about himself and his relationship with youkai along the way.

100/100"Exchange a smile with someone who care for you"Continue on AniListI watch SoL Anime for comfort and relaxation. Seeing a bunch of happy characters being happy in a rather laid back setting, makes me happy but whenever I finish any SoL, I always feel a bit empty. A realization occurs that everything I've watched & experienced so far is just a temporary feeling that'll fade away sooner or later. That's because many of these SoLs never had a long-lasting impression on me. They may have an original concept, they may have some well written characters, they may have or do something that I might love to appreciate, but many of them didn't convey anything that touched my soul. But among those very few titles that did, Natsume's Book of Friends is one such favourite of mine.
Upon my first introduction to the series, I thought it was a great Iyashikei. It has all the right elements to make for a relaxing watch. A rural setting, a kind protagonist solving troubles of both humans & demons, cute mascot cat, fairly well written characters and an episodic storytelling well managed with its cozy art style, beautiful backgrounds and soothing OSTs, but that's just it. It was good and great but nothing really special. Very little consideration was given to the character development and the overreaching plot/main mystery of "Yuujinchou" moves at a snail pace. But what's really special about this to me is what the series always encapsulates.
The Warmth in interactions Everyone has their moments of highs & lows in life and sometimes, we just wish for someone to be there; someone who cares for us. Every episodic story in every season of Natsume always highlights this warmth in interacting with someone who cares for you, and that's what is truly special about this show. It shows Natsume growing out of his anti-social, self hate personality triggered by his parents death and being labeled as a weird kid, into a kind & open hearted person who starts to accept himself and others into his life.
And I like to say that I love the sound element very much. I really like the soothing melodies in their calm and heartwarming moments, or it's more intense or dramatic moments, but what I really love about the series are the Ending Songs.*Aishiteru* I always listen to these ending songs after completing each season and while I usually avoid exaggerating but I've never heard such a heartwarming song as ED2, and the fact that the song is titled Aishiteru - "I Love You" just fills me with so much joy. Many thanks to all the staff who worked on and keep working on such a lovely show.
Conclusion A personal favorite which reminds me of people who care for me and that I have to treasure them. Kurohime242
85/100The Start of A Possible Complex Lore to ComeContinue on AniListThe second season of Natsume Yuujinchou is as cozy as ever, with new youkai and funny moments to enjoy. Just as it was in the first season, Natsume meets new youkai and help them with their problems hoping to make their lives better. He also had to continue to tie up the loose ends which his late grandmother, Reiko, left behind.

The synopsis for both seasons is understandably the same in general but there are differences in the two seasons. The first season, like any other introduction, is a series where it helps us get integrated into Natsume's world. In other words, getting used to the norm. It is also in the first season where we were also introduced to a few important characters who would have left what I believe is a significant impact to the story in the later seasons. And because Natsume's world involves youkai, exorcism is inevitable to appear in the series, which the first season briefly introduced.

Although the first season does show Natsume trying to bond with his loved ones more, it is in the second season where we see him learning to open up more to his loved ones. One such person would be Tanuma who shared a similar experience to Natsume except his ability to see spirits is extremely diluted.

Exorcism is still present in the second season as Natori, possibly representing the exorcists in general, has been quite active and seems to be constantly involved with Natsume. It is also in this season where we see both Natori's and Natsume's friendship getting stronger.

In addition to exorcism continuing to exist, sorcery is also briefly introduced in this season with a new character, Taki Tooru, who would later one of Natsume's closest confidant and helper whenever he encounters trouble with the youkai.

Overall, the second season does not fail to meet the expectations of a cozy anime despite having some exorcism and evil youkai present. But it is also in the second season where a can of worms is slowly being open to reveal a more complex lore of Natsume.
