90/100What is love anyway? (After reading this I seriously had to take a time to think about it, and write this review)Continue on AniListThis fascinating series started around the beginning of 2020, I guess that by the art many would tell that is obviously a Shoujo manga, however I think it fits better in Seinen demography.
Shoujo manga has somewhat bittersweet love stories that in general terms have happy endings, but the things that you may see during this series aren´t your usual stuff.
To begin with, What´s a Gachi Koi? They are people who fall in love with celebrities, being people from internet or even big shots such as movie stars, and develop some sort of complex from which they think they are the number one fan of a certain person and for such reason they must be by that person´s side; in many cases this leads to stalking or murdering depending of the circumstances. Basically they are at some extent Yanderes.
Seira, the author of this work, set the story in the actual Japan; note that the story doesn´t focus only on one character, but a group of three video streamers whose lives are about to change because of these obsessive fans. We have Subaru, for the cameras he would play what many call a cool character, the leader of the group Cosmo with this air of being “a good kid”, and Ginga, a so called “bad boy” character because of his selfish behaviour. I´ll keep to myself the names of the Gachi Kois, read the manga if you want to know so hard.
Despite the whole Yandere thing the comedy is wholesome, is so good that even when I reread a particular chapter after a while it´s still funny. The character design is wonderful, their appearances, clothes and reactions are really well done. Moreover it provides a greater impact when you see how the Gachi Kois react to something bad related to their faves, you could even feel a shiver going down your spine, but somehow it´s another way to show love, I think?
I must admit it´s quite an original work, one of the strong points that Seira uses on her benefit is how the unstoppable tides of comments that flow during live videos or social media could affect so much the sanity of these women, of course more than being crazy it would be more appropriate to say that they just feel jealousy because people write things on such a carefree mood that demonstrate clear intentions about what they want, and that just tick them off; although this isn´t the case for everyone.
In many ways this is sad but at the same time it is indeed entertaining (at least to me), you see I find fascinating the idea of falling in love without knowing a single thing about a complete stranger, they might argue that they know lots of things of that person via videos they´ve watched or data they read in the net, nevertheless they don´t really know the true self of that person. In another words it seems that they are way too naive by thinking they have chances of unfold some romantic relationship to begin with, however I don´t think that is necessarily bad, it´s because of that naivety that these one sided feelings could shine in such a bright light (Then you say: “Man, you talk too much, but the point is that by what you say it is a Shoujo manga regardless; Me: “Yes and No”).
You might have troubles trying to understand how the minds of these obsessive fans work, there are times you don´t fully understand the line of their thoughts but I think you´ll find it amusing in its own way.
Nowadays the series reached its eleventh volume and I would expect it to end around the fifteenth or the sixteenth volume by chapter one hundred, my guess.
In conclusion, the story might be unsettling to certain readers because of such twisted love and an affection incomprehensible to most of us, but its value as plot is indeed higher to many others, the wish for a succeed love keeps you in suspense as you read chapter after chapter, plus the comedy makes it manageable. It´s definitely something you can read in one go over the weekend, so why not?
Well now, I´ll follow the rites as usual, I come here, I stand on my knees and humbly apologize for the long text and appreciate the fact that you might have read all of it (hopefully), it´s even possible that right now you are catching a look of the first chapter, go on, enjoy it.
If you liked it then spread the word, and if you don´t I would prefer that you give me a thumb down before saying something that might get on the nerves of someone on the net, safer, you can´t never know who is at the other side of a screen, Don´t you agree?
